The origin
of Posh
The American
Heritage Dictionary defines Posh as "Smart and fashionable;
exclusive." An acronym for "port(side) out , starboard
home," with reference to top-class accommodations on the shady
side of ocean liners plying between England and East India at the
turn of the century.
Posh class travellers received the best service
on board. We adopted this name with a commitment to uphold this
time-honoured tradition.
